Studying Business English

In general, there are two types of business English study:

1. Foundational Language Study: This includes study you to do build your reading and listening skills, and your knowledge of vocabulary and grammar.

2. Communication Skills Study: This is study you do to improve your speaking and writing skills, and might include such topics as: Presentation skills; report writing; teleconference and meeting skills; negotiation skills; social communication.

It is a good idea to focus your studies on one area. This usually depends on your current skill level and on what you need to be able to do in English.

For example, students preparing to take the TOEIC will focus on the first type of study, because they need to have solid reading and listening skills, along with a core business vocabulary and understanding of English grammar in order to do well on the TOEIC.
